He then came by way of covered wagon and oxen to Marion county, Iowa, living there until the age of fifteen. Son of Noah Cunningham and Ann Margaret Douglas OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, October 21, 1930 WILLIAM NELSON CUNNINGHAM William Nelson Cunningham was born in Noble county, Indiana in 1850 and lived there until he was eight years old. He then came by way of covered wagon and oxen to Marion county, Iowa, living there until the age of fifteen. From there he moved to Webster county, where he grew to manhood and was married to Amanda Pilcher on March 25, 1876. To this union eight children were born, three of whom have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his going his aged companion, three sons, William, Homer and Bert Cunningham, all of Des Moines, and two daughters of Lucas county, Mrs. Dave Westman and Mrs. John Williams, with whom he made his home for the last five years. He also leaves two brothers, George and Lewis, of Boone, Iowa, and sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Nelson Cunningham has been a miner for fifty-five years and a member of the United Mine Workers since the organization was founded. He was a firm believer in the Baptist faith and was baptized, but never united with the church. He passed away on October 13, 1930, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 11 days. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Alfred Mill, were held at the Zion church on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, after which interment was made in the Zion cemetery.
