VESTAL Funeral services were held October 24, 1966 at Nelson Chapel in Red Oak, for Woodie M. Vestal of Red Oak, Rev. L. Duane Churchman, Carlisle and Clement Rowe of Henderson, Wesley Chapel, officiated. Woodie Marion Vestal, the youngest child of Romulus Saunders and Margaret Elizabeth Vestal, was born October 30, 1880 on a farm near Strahan in Mills County, Iowa. He passed away after a long illness on October 21, 1966 at Murphy Hospital in Red Oak, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 20 days. He was a member of the Strahan Methodist Church, later transferring to the Methodist Church at Grant. He was united in marriage to Nancy Rosetta McFarland of White Cloud Community on December 13, 1901. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union. In March 1939 he moved from the Strahan community to a farm near Grant, where he, his wife, Rose, and son Franklin resided for 25 years. In October 1964, they left the farm and moved to Red Oak, where they resided for the past two years. On March 24 of this year, he was taken to the Murphy Hospital, because of a broken hip, where he remained until his death. Throughout his long illness, his Christian faith kept him a cheerful and patient suffered. He was a dutiful and devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, and a wise counselor to all. His religion consisted more of deeds than words. He was a men who had the courage of his convictions, holding to the natural and spiritual things of life. he served as president of the Glynn and Fairview rural schools and also the Strahan School Board for many years. He was deeply interested in the promotion of education and improvement of the community. He is survived by his wife, Rose and four children, Clifford of Clear Lake; Donald of Creston; Mrs. Arthur (Dorothy) Churchman of Malvern, and Franklin of Red Oak; eight grandchildren; Lt. C. E. R. LeRoy Vestal of Jekyll Island, Georgia, Mrs. John Buell of Port Orchard, Oregon, Miss Nancy Vestal of Indianola; Mrs. Delman Campbell of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Gerald Dix of Sioux City; Lloyd Vestal of Iowa City; Rev. L. Duane Churchman of Carlisle, and David Churchman of Denver, Colorado; 23 great grandchildren; two nieces, Mrs. Ina Slothower of Malvern and Mrs. Maude McDowell of Emerson and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Saylers and Mrs. Robert Criswell; one brother, Charles and a grandson, Roger Vestal. Music was provided for the services by Mrs. Earl Spiker, Mrs. Gerald Taylor, and Mrs. Jack Taylor, all of Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Roberts, Grant, and Mrs. Twyla Yeager and Mrs. William McAlpin of Red Oak were in charge of flowers. Pall bearers were Lloyd Vestal, David Chruchman, Gerald Dix, Delman Campbell, Paul Vestal, and William McAlpin. Interment was at the Malvern Cemetery.
