It was pretty generally known that Mr. Studt's illness was very serious and that little hope was entertained for his complete recovery. Still the news of his death came as a great shock and was received with profound regret by his friends, which were numbered by his acquaintances. Mr. Studt was nearly 58 years of age and had been a member of the firm of J.W. Studt and Brother since its establishment in 1887. He was very successful in his business dealings as is evidenced by the steady growth of the institution of which he was a partner. Mr. Studt was a member of the German Lutheran Church and has been an active church worker practically all of his life. The funeral service was held at the German Lutheran Church Monday morning at 10 o'clock and was largely attended, many not being able to get into the church. The services were conducted by Rev. Schedding who delivered his sermon in German. Rev. Utach of New Cambridge, kansas, delivered the English sermon, he being assisted by Rev. Taylor of the M.E. Church. The pallbearers were Messers. Joe Martin, Chas. Henning, Geo. Chapman, Robt. Bracken, A.C. Archer and Herman Gratoski. Every business place in the city honored the memory of Mr. Studt by closing its doors during the services. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family. A short sketch of the life of Mr. Studt maybe found on another page of this paper. Page 6 Adam Studt was born December 6, 1859 in Solon, Johnson County, Iowa and died June 22, 1917, age 57 years 6 months 16 days. He came to Glasco, Kansas in February 1879. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Margaret Studt. To this union two children were born, Leo, who preceeded his father in death nine years, and Mamie. In 1887 they moved to Glasco, Adam entering in business with his brother J.W. Studt, this being one of the pioneer mercantile firms of Glasco; still continuing in business. In April 1888 he was bereaved of his wife, Leo being then three years and Mamie eleven months of age. On February 24, 1895 he was united in marriage to Clara C. Clark. Two years ago his health began to fail and the disease developed which caused his death. In April he decided to try the treatment at Excelsior Springs but apparently deriving no benefit he returned home after two weeks. After his return he grew steadily worse, suffering most intensely during the last seven weeks of his life. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining and always murmuring a prayer when suffering the worst. Medical aid and careful nursing were of no avail, and on Friday afternoon at 2:30 he quietly passed away into the "Great Beyond," simply asleep in Jesus. He was an earnest, consistent Christian, having united with the Lutheran church at fifteen years of age. Helped to organize the Lutheran Sunday School of Glasco and had been an active member of Sunday School and church ever since. Also a member of the church counsel(sic) for some years. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good and loyal citizen, noted for his honesty and integrity, a man beloved by little children and respected and revered by all who knew him. Perhaps no man in all our community would have been more greatly missed in home and church and municipal affairs than the deceased. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, one daughter, two grandchildren, five brothers, J.W., Philip, Henry and George of Glasco and Otto of Orville, California; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Romeiser of Glasco, Mrs. Reuben Spicher of Edmond, Kans.; a step-father and step-sister, Mrs. Herman Pinkall, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
