IN '79 Was a Citizen Worthy, In Every Way, of The High Esteem in Which He Was Held A large consourse of relatives, neighbors and friends gathered at the Lutheran Church yesterday afternoon to attend the funeral services and pay their respects to the memory of one of community's very finest citizens, Jacob W. Studt, who passed away at the family home early Monday morning. Mr. Studt was one of our few remaining pioneer merchants. He held many positions of trust in our community, having been a member of the Glasco Rural High School Board for a number of years, a director of the First National Bank and as long as health permitted, an active official of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Though Mr. Studt, Jake as most of his friends called him, was of a rather retiring disposition, he by his honesty of dealing, his sincere friendship and concern for those with whom he had dealings, and to those with whom he otherwise came in contact with in his busy life in our little community, made numberless friends, who during the many months of his illness have evidenced a deep concern over his continued failing health, and all are unanimous in the thought that Jake Studt will be sadly missed and leaves a place in the life of the community and in the hearts of his friends that will be very hard to fill. Dr. B.R. Lantz of Salina officiated at the service yesterday and in his sermon payed a glowing tribute (words missing) ship such as were exemplified in the life of Mr. Studt. Interment was in Glasco Cemetery. J.W. Studt was born in Johnson county, Iowa, near Solon, November 13, 1861, and passed away at his home in Glasco, Kansas, January 11, 1932 aged 70 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was baptized in infancy, and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Solon, Iowa, and lived according to its teachings until the end. He received his education at Solon, and came to Glasco, Kansas April 20, 1879. At the age of 17 years he began clerking in the general merchandise store of Isaac Briggs, and was employed there for two years. Then for six years he was employed by Joe LaRocque, in the same business. In March, 1887, he and his brother Adam went into the general merchandise business together, and the partnership continued unbroken for over thirty years, until the death of his brother, Adam. Two years later, because of failing health, he sold the business and retired. He was united in marriage to Ota Hussey, December 25, 1889. To this union two children were born, Evan, who died in infancy, and Roy. On May 31, 1902 his wife died. On June 14, 1905 he was united in marriage to Ida Anderson Converse. To this union three children were born, Charles, Ida and Esther, all at home. This is a history of a devout, Christian life, yet how little it tells of his service, kindness and influence for good. Until his illness two years ago, his had been an active life, particularly in the progressive things for the betterment of the community. He will always be remembered in the home as a kind, loving husband and father; and his many relatives and friends for his loyal friendliness and helpful service. He leaves to mourn his loss: his widow and four children, Roy, Charles, Ida and Esther; three brothers, Philip and George of Glasco, and Otto of Orville, California; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Romeiser and Mrs. Reuben Spicher; one step-sister, Mrs. Herman Pinkall; also twenty-five nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
