STOKES DIED IN DES MOINES TAKEN TO THE METHODIST HOSPITAL TUESDAY AND DIED WEDNESDAY MORNING After weeks of the most intense suffering, Mrs. V. D. Stokes passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines at 7 a.m. on Wednesday May 11th, of leakage of the heart and a nervous breakdown. Mr. and Mrs. Stokes, together with a trained nurse went to Des Moines on Tuesday in the hopes a Heart Specialist might be able to benefit her. She made the trip in an excellent manner and all hopes were raised that she might be helped, but the All Wise Providence willed otherwise. Mrs. Stokes returned early in February from a visit in Indiana apparently in the best of health but on February 16th she was taken seriously ill and since then has been under the constant care of a nurse together with the loving attention of her relatives. Mrs. Stokes was a most devoted wife, loving mother, kind neighbor and a faithful friend. Hers was a life of service, with all her busy activities she ever found time to lend, of leave her smile of love on those who were in sorrow or trouble. In the church where she labored so untiringly she will indeed be greatly missed. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, Ladies League and the Loyal Woman's Bible Class of the local church, and of the Service Star Legion. The remains arrived from Des Moines, Thursday morning, over the Rock Island. Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. Rev. N. R. Miles in charge and burial in Lakeview Cemetery beside her brother, Harry Morey, who preceded her just three weeks ago. Addie Isabel Morey was born in Taylor County, Iowa, December 5, 1877 and passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 1921, aged 43 years, 5 months and 6 days. She was united in marriage to William E. Smith, July 19, 1896, at Jackson, Minn. two children were born to this union, a son, Derward Harlow, who died in infancy and a daughter, Dorothy Arlene, who still survives her. She was united in marriage to V. D. Stokes, October 4th, 1908, at Spirit Lake. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her death her father and mother, four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mable Martinson, Miss Mollie Morey, Edgar Morey of Montgomery, Mrs. Frank Wright Jr., of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Bessie Pagel, of Minneapolis, Minn. *The Spirit Lake Beacon, May 12, 1921 ------------------
