Morey of Montgomery, who passed away on Wednesday evening of last week were held at the Presbyterian church in Spirit Lake on Saturday afternoon. Rev. Herbert Marsh officiated, assisted by the Masons at the grave. Interment was made in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake, Iowa. Mr. Morey followed farming most of his life, having been engaged in that occupation before coming to Dickinson county. For a number of years he occupied the Nece and Staplin farms east of town. About six years ago he associated himself with his son-in-law in the mercantile business at Montgomery, where he has since resided. He had been in poor health for the past five months suffering with leakage of the heart. Mason L. Morey, the eldest child of Edwin and Harriet Morey was born April 14, 1850, near Amboy, Lee Co., Illinois, and passed away at his home in Montgomery, Iowa, December 23rd, 1925, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 9 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Ella Derr, March 19th, 1877. To this union eight children were born; four of whom have preceded him in death. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children; Mrs. Mable Martinson and Mollie Morey of Montgomery, Edgar Morey of Arnold's Park and Bessie Paget of Minneapolis, Minn. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and four sisters and three brothers. Of the family of eight children, he is the first to pass away. He was made a Mason in Lee Center Lodge No. 146, at Lee Center, Illinois, more than fifty years ago. Mr. Morey was a man of an unassuming nature, but a good citizen, one who believed in the golden rule principles. He was not quick to make friends, but retained them to the last. Those in attendance at the funeral from away were Mr. Morey's sister Mary S Johnson of West Brooklyn, Illinois, his two brothers, Charley Morey of Clyde, ILL., and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Morey of North Platte, Nebr., and daughter Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Paget of Minneapolis.
