GRAY PLACE Harry Morey of Estherville was instantly killed just befor six o'clock Friday evening in an automobile accident near the A. D. Gray place just south of Spirit Lake. Mr. Morey was driving the Carter V. Bond Chandler car of Estherville and was accompanied by Mr. Bond's son. Too much speed is given as the cause of the accident. They had driven over from Estherville late in the afternoon and were on their way to Arnolds Park. They had made the corner just west of the Gray home, but in doing so had gotten fairly close to the side and it is thought Morey attempted to straighten the car up too quickly and the rear end started to swing and swung into the south ditch turning the machine clear over and stopped upon its wheels. Bond evidently fell or was thrown clear of the car as it went over, While Morey, who was behind the wheel caught the full weight of the car. At first it was thought his neck had been broken but upon closer examination this was found not true. His jaw and the base of his skull was broken and he was otherwise cut and mutilated about the head so that those earlist at the scene of the accident were not able to recognize him. Bond escaped without a scratch or a bruise save for having his pants torn across one knee. The car was not damaged except the steering wheel, windshield and one spring broken, and one fender bent a trifle. Harry Mason Morey, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Morey of Montgonery, residents of Spirit Lake up until March a year ago. Deceased was born in Lee Center, Lee County, Illinois, December 9, 1889, and passed away April 22, 1921, aged 31 years, 4 months and 18 days. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Compton, Ill., and later to Casey, Iowa. They moved to Spirit Lake about eleven years ago and have since made this place his home until a few months ago when he went to Estherville, where he was employed. He was a World War Veteran serving in the 841 Aero Repair Squadron overseas for several months. He was united in marriage about two months and a half ago to Mrs. Blanche Hopkins-Hubbard of Laurens, Iowa. Besides the wife he leaves a daughter about 8 years of age by a former marriage at Dolliver, Iowa, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Morey, and five sisters and one brother, who are, Mrs. Mable Martinson and Miss Mollie Morey of Montgomery, Mrs. Addie Stokes, Mrs. Frank Wright and Edgar Morey of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. Bessie Pagel of Minneapolis, all of whom were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Addie Stokes who is seriously ill at her home. Thr funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Spirit Lake Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The American Legions had charge and attended in a body as did the Service Star Legion. Rev.
