Shimon Suffered Fatal Heart Attack Military funeral services were held Monday morning, December 14, at 9:30 o’clock at Sacred Heart Catholic church for Albert C. Shimon, 61, widely known Pocahontas business man, who died very unexpectedly Friday evening, December 11, in Holy Name Hall after suffering a heart attack. Rev. H.B. The McMahon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shimon of Pocahontas, he was born April 6, 1892 on a farm near Pocahontas. He attended Sacred Heart school and on June 13, 1917 was married to Lottie Cavanaugh at Gilmore City. Following their marriage they lived one year at Palmer where he was employed by his brother-in-law, the late William J. Posakony, in his Ford agency. He was called into service in World War I and served with the army in France. Shortly after his return and discharge from service, he again took up his work with Mr. Posakony in 1920 and was taken by him as a partner. They purchased a building in Pocahontas from Oscar Peterson and the Pocahontas Auto Co. was established. Mr. Posakony was forced to retire from business due to ill health in 1933 and Mr. Shimon purchased his interest. In recent years Mr. Shimon has been senior partner in the business with his son, Howard. Mr. Shimon served as director and vice president of the Commercial State Bank since its organization about 25 years ago. He was chairman of the Pocahontas county draft board during the World War II years from 1940-47. He served on the executive committee of the Commercial Club at Pocahontas for a number of years and also on the public school board, being at one time its president. He was an active member of Sacred Heart parish and was chairman of the church finance committee for 18 years. Several days prior to his death he had accepted the chairmanship of the school fund drive for the parish which is erecting a new school and it was in this capacity that he was serving when stricken Friday night. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Howard of Pocahontas and Pvt. Charles Shimon of Camp Polk, La.; two daughters, Mrs. George (Jane) Ferris of Butte, Mont., and Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Cawley of Denver, Colo.; one grandchild, Kevin Cawley; three brothers, Leonard Shimon of Marquette, Mich., Will and Leo Shimon of Pocahontas; and five sisters, Mrs. Anna Wilson, Mrs. Josephine Posakony and Mrs. Dan O’Brien, all of Pocahontas, Mrs. Frances Carey of Fort Dodge, and Miss Esther Shimon of Dubuque.
