Peter and Paul church when Miss Frances Helen Shimon was united in marriage to Jerry D. Carey. Rev. J. T. Fitzpatrick of Sioux City, cousin of the groom officiated at the nuptial mass. Paul Posakony, nephew of the bride and Arthur Zatioukal were the mass servers. During the offertory Rev. M. J. Kolvek and F. C. Kopriva sang “Ava Maria” The organist was Miss Eileen O’Brien. The bride wore a beautiful gown of white silk net, and Spanish lace veil and wore a corsage of calla lilies. The bridesmaid, Miss Marian Carey of Evanston, Ill., sister of the groom, was becomingly gowned in a powder blue flat crepe dress with hat and accessories to match and wore a corsage of sweet peas and pink roses. The flower girls Naida and Arlene Shimon, nieces of the bride wore pink organdy dresses, ankle length, and hats to match. Each carried a basket of sweet peas. Leo Shimon was best man and he and the groom wore suits of conventional blue. Three Course Wedding Breakfast. Following the ceremony a three course wedding breakfast was served to the immediate relatives at the home of the bride’s father, by Mrs. C. E. Lindeman assisted by Misses Leona Kopriva and Helen Linman. The table decorations were in pink and white. The bride is a daughter of Thos. Shimon Sr., and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy in Dubuque in 1920 and for the past six years has been employed as bookkeeper and buyer in the Reliable Store. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Ellen Carey and is employed as manager of the Mona Motor Oil Stations. Popular and Prominent “Jay” and “Fran”, as they are familiarly called by their intimate friends, are popular and prominent socially and in business. Both have strong individual personalities and their associates and intimates declare they are both “dandy good scouts”. The marriage of “Jay” and “Fran” will add another list of delightful and popular Pocahontas homes which will no doubt be the scene for many happy social events in the years to come. Frances Helen Shimon was born Feb. 27, 1903 near Pocahontas. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Sernett) Shimon. She attended public schools in Pocahontas and graduated from Dubuque girls school, Mount St. Joe Academy, now known as Clark College. On June 6, 1932, Frances married Jay Carey, who died six months later on Dec. 23, 1932. Frances moved to Fort Dodge in 1938. She worked at several sales jobs before joining the staff of Boston Store. During her 24 years with the Boston Store, she was promoted to head buyer . In 1993 she moved to the Pocahontas Residental Center and in 1996, she entered the Pocahontas Manor. Frances was a member of the Resurrection of our Lord Church. She was active in the choirs of St. P & P Catholic church in Fort Dodge. Frances H. Carey, age 98, of Pocahontas, died Friday May 11, 2001, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Rolfe. with Father Merle Kollasch and Father James Schall officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday Home in Pocahontas, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in Pocahontas. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jay and 13 brothers and sisters: Anna Wilson, Josephine Posakony, Bill Shimon, Lena Shimon, George Shimon, Albert Shimon, Christine Kelper, Thomas Shimon, Leo Shimon, esther Shimon, Leo Shimon, Esther Shimon, Grace Schall, Leonard Whimon, and Eleanor O’Brien.
