Military services were in charge of Liberty Post No.18, The American Legion. The firing squad and color guard was made up of the following: Valerian Hronek, Paul Nieman, Jim Severson, Leo and Cleo Flaherty, Paul Hudek, Bob Lorge, Bill Wiese, Marvin Wiseman, Knute Hatteberg, L. W. Weber, and Jerry McTigue, who presented the flag. Dale E. Boyd was chaplain. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. Thomas Michael Shimon was born in Pocahontas county, Oct 8, 1894. He was one of 14 children of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Shimon, early settlers of this county. He attended Sacred Heart School here and grew to manhood in this vicinity. On April 3, 1923, he was united in marriage with Ida Goetz at Pocahontas. For a number of years he was associated in Shimon drug store with his cousin, A. J. Shimon. About 13 years ago he retired from the firm after suffering a stroke from which he never recovered. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion and for a number of years he served...continued on back page 10” Page 10 “...on the Pocahontas Town Council. He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church. He is survived by his wife, six daughters and three sons. They are: Duane of Cedar Rapids; Naida of Denver, Colo.; Arlene of San Francisco, Calif.; Rose Ann of Denver, Colo.; Helen of Dubuque, Ia.; Kenneth, USN, Jacksonville, Fla., and Shirley, Clifford and Mary, all at home. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Frances Carey of Fort Dodge; Miss Esther Shimon of Dubuque; Leonard Shimon of Marquette, Mich.; Mrs. W. W. Wilson, Mrs. Josephine Posakony, Mrs. Dan O’Brion, Wm., Albert C. and Lon all of this place. He was preceded in death by one brother, George and three sisters, Lena Shimon, Grace Schall and Christine Kepler. Those from a distance attending the funeral included all of the children, Mrs. Frances Carey, Mrs. Minnie Reichert, Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Harris all of Fort Dodge; Miss Esther Shimon of Dubuque; Mrs. Rose Tribner of Omaha, Nebr.; John Goetz, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goetz, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Goetz, Miss Martha Goetz, all of Rockwell City; Mrs. Emma Schwarek and son, Myron, of Spencer, Mrs. and Mrs. C. Shewmacker of Laurens; Dale Reichert of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Prichard of Sioux City, and a host of relatives and friends from surrounding towns in the county.” “Card of Thanks” “Words cannot adequately express our deep appreciation for the many kind deeds and sympathetic acts extended to us at the time of the death of our husband and father, Thos.
