Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had just returned to their home here from the hospital in Webster City where Mr. Johnson had undergone an operation for hernia. He was apparently getting along nicely and as well as any one could after so delicate an operation and just a few minutes before his death was engaged in conversation with a relative and those of the household and arose to his feet and walked about to show that he was recuperating nicely. It is thought that he suffered a sudden relapse similar to one which he is said to have suffered while at the hospital. Friends of his bereaved wife and children extend sincere condolences in this their hour of sadness. Deceased was about 66 years old. Stratford Courier December 28, 1922 Allen Johnson was born in Swede Bend community southwest of Stratford, August 31, 1855. He passed away at the family home in this place Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 19, 1922, at about 3 o'clock and was 67 years, 2 months, 18 days old. He was united in marriage to Miss Ida E. Brooks September 4, 1879 and this union was blessed with three children, all of whom survive. They are: A. Leslie Johnson, Clifford Johnson and Mrs. (Agnes Ida) C.L. Carlson. His bereaved wife and these sons and daughter are the members of the immediate family who are called upon to mourn the passing of a kind and loving husband and father. Four sisters and three brothers also survive. They are: Mrs. Louisa Poulson, Mrs. Hattie Andrews and Mrs. Josie Anderson, of Stratford, and Mrs. Mary Eckstein of Boone; John P. Johnson, Fairmont, Minn.; Swen Johnson and Charley Johnson of Stratford. A large number of life-long friends and neighbors also mourn the passing of this man who they were blessed to call their friend. Deceased had been a resident of Hamilton County for 43 years. Until early this summer he had lived on his farm southeast of town, but this year he had built for himself and wife a very neat bungalow in south Stratford and had prepared himself to enter the rest of life in ease after he had spent many years on the farm in hard work, but He who rules the universe had other plans for this good man and He called him home. Deceased is the first of a family of eight children to pass to the Great Beyond. Mr. Johnson had always been hale and hearty, had always been able to do more than his share of hard work and until his present trouble had not had many days of poor health. He was one of those men whom it was a real pleasure to know and having known him, he was not easily forgotten. He was kind, sincere and honest and enjoyed the confidence of every man with whom he came in contact in a business or social way. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the local Baptist church conducted by Rev. C.G. Bengtson, pastor of the church. The remains were interred in South Marion Cemetery.
