She was born January 17, 1904 in Grayson County, raised in Alleghany County and was the daughter of the late Samuel Oscar Gambill and Cornelia Taylor Gambill. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1924 and attended Appalachian State Teachers College. Read More	Daughter of Oscar Gambill and Cornelia Taylor _____________ OSBORNE, Amma Letha Gambill, 98, of Cox's Chapel Community, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at her residence. She was born January 17, 1904 in Grayson County, raised in Alleghany County and was the daughter of the late Samuel Oscar Gambill and Cornelia Taylor Gambill. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1924 and attended Appalachian State Teachers College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isom Burton Osborne, sisters Cora Lee Shores, Eula Mae Parker and Gena Sue Hughes. Surviving are her two daughters, Carol Jean Golden and her husband Ralph D. Golden of McKenzie, Tennessee and Sue O. McBride and her husband Virgil L. McBride of Raleigh, North Carolina; one brother, Samuel Oscar Gambill, Jr. and his wife Wanda Carpenter Gambill of Sparta, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Osborne was active in the community for more than 70 years, serving as a tireless leader in Cox's Chapel United Methodist Church and Cox's Chapel Grange #954. She was a teacher, dedicated homemaker and community volunteer. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 27, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Va. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 28, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Cox's Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Cox's Chapel UMC Cemetery. Rev. Susan Sides and Rev. Fred E. Jennings will officiate. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Cox's Chapel UMC or Cox's Chapel Grange #954.
