Sheridan St., died Feb. 17, 2010, at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.He was born March 14, 1916, in Quay County, N.M., to Thomas Jefferson and Mathilda Matheny Thrasher. He married Leota M. Rogers July 20, 1935, in Centerville. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 1997.A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1934, he worked for more than 30 years for the Ottumwa Fire Department, retiring as assistant fire chief in 1976.He was a member of the First Church of God. Amos played music for many years at nursing homes until August 2009, and he enjoyed making his own fiddles and hunting.Surviving are three sons, Tom Thrasher of Ely, Nev., David Thrasher of Prairie View, Texas, and James Thrasher of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Winingham of Marysville, Calif.He was preceded in death by two sons, Dan and John Thrasher; a great-grandson, Arthur Thrasher; and seven sisters.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home; Pastor Josh Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6-8 p.m.Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous for the Leo Greco Project.
