He was one of ten children. He grew up in that community, and like his father, became a farmer. On February 18, 1919, he married Margaret Andres at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. They had a long married life and celebrated their 50th and 55th wedding anniversaries. He was a farmer, stockman all his active life. He retired on the farm about 14 years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, and the St. Joseph Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1769 at Seneca for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband and father; his greatest joy was his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of St. Benedict; sons, Roy Engelken, Wichita, KS; Lester Engelken, Frankfort, KS; Clarence Engelken, Seneca, KS; daughter, Mrs. Reva Holthaus, Baileyville, KS: brothers, Albert Engelken, Seneca, KS; Leo Engelken, Shawnee Mission, KS; sister, Mrs. Margaret Hammes, Baileyville, KS; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
