Her actual birth year which she tried to conceal in later years was 1854, according to family notes from her grandson Gene Homer George. Gene wrote: "Anna was a small red haired, blue eyed woman and an excellent house keeper. She grew up in a poverty environment with little education. Hard work was about all they had and she was on her own before age sixteen. She came to Colorado and miraculously became six years younger. Her date of birth was really 1854 instead of 1860 and all New York records show the first and Colorado records show the later. She was 29 years old when she got married so this probably had something to do with becoming younger." The concealment of Anna's birth year continued after her death, with "1861" carved onto her gravestone, pictured here.
