Anna Lukesh was born in 1836 at Budwitz, Bohemia. In the year 1854, in company her present husband, and sister, Mrs. Mary Payer, she emigrated to America and the same year was married to Frank Sernett, at Hamilton, Canada. They removed to Dubuque, Iowa, and a few years later settled in Winnesheik county, where they remained until 1875 when they came further west and settled on a farm in Center township, Pocahontas County, Iowa. Here with her husband, Mrs. Sernett braved the hardships of pioneer life and reared a large family, who, with the exception of one child that died in infancy, survive, together with the husband, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Payer, of this place. The children are: Mrs. Albert Chizek of Garner, Iowa, Mrs. Mike Shimon, Mrs. Tom Shimon, Mrs. Jake Shimon, Mrs. James Dady, Mike, Frank, Albert and Louis, all who reside in this county, and who were present during the last sickness and death of their mother. The deceased was noted for her kind and benevolent spirit toward the poor, and many pioneers have shared the hospitality of her home in the early days. A wife, mother, and sister is gone, but we know that what is our loss is her gain. May her soul rest in peace. Contributed by Joseph Roberts and Ann Bowler
