H. and Sybila Kann, was born in Clayton County, December 5, 1851, and passed away at Postville, Iowa, on Monday morning, October 18, at the age of 57 years, 9 months and 13 days. On December 26, 1871 she was unit in marriage to S. H. F. Schoulte, Sr., and settled in Farmersburg township, where they have since made their home. To this union fourteen children were born: C. H. Henry, Philomena B., Catherine E., William C., Mary J. F., John, S. H. Frank, Jr., Lucy A. M., J. Oliver S., Apolina A. S., Grace C. E., Hilda O. S., Casper and Maria Antonetta. John died in infancy, Maria Antonetta in 1895 and Philomena B., passed away at Boulder, Colo., in 1903, where she had gone with the hopes of regaining her health. Thus another noble life has ended. Mrs. Schoulte was a kind and loving wife and mother, one who was always willing and ready to do anything and everything for the welfare of her family. She was a never tiring mother, toiling from early morning till late at night. Mrs. Schoulte was a true Christian, not only in words but also in deeds. She was an active member of the Catholic church, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a woman who was held in the highest esteem by all who had the privilege of her acquantance and her loss will be sincerely mourned. She deserves great credit in bringing up such a large family, besides several orphans, teaching them daily to worship their maker. Mrs. Schoulte had been a patient sufferer for the past ten years and at the time of her demise had gone to Postville to seek medical attendance, when death came and relieved her of her sufferings. She had the best of care, being attended by Dr. Guthrie of Dubuque, assisted by several other physicians. Those who are left to mourn her loss are Henry, married to Hedwig [nickname Hattie] Berns and residing near the old home, William, Mary and Frank, Jr., of Hilmoe, S. D., Lucy, Oliver, Apolonia, Grace, Hilda and Casper at home, besides the sorrowing husband and father and many other relatives and friends, among them Mr. Schoulte's aged mother, who is at present very feeble. All the children were present. Funeral services took place Friday morning at St. Joseph's church, Father Raedler conducting. Her remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo. A large crowd followed the funeral cortege to its final resting place. "Lone are the paths and sad the hours, Whence thy sweet smile has gone; But, oh! a brighter home than ours, In Heaven in now thine own."
