Mrs. Cornelius was a member of First United Methodist Church, Beulah Chapter No. 34 of Order of Eastern Star and Santa Fe Old Timers Club, all in Topeka. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jeanne C. Herron, Topeka; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Cornelius will lie in state until noon Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. ******************** Home in 1940: Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. Bertha was 42, a widow, working as a stenographer. Her daughter, Jeane Cornelius (later Herron, and later still Thoms), 13, was living with her. Home in 1930:** Seneca, Nemaha, Kansas, USA. Bertha, 32, and Jenne Ann, 3, were living with Bertha's parents. Bertha was listed as married, but her husband was not in the home. It is assumed that Bertha was divorced from her husband. When he applied for military compensation in 1934, he was living in Topeka at 1008 Quincy street. His wife's name was given as Lillian Cornelius. His registration for WWII was in 1942 in Elmira, New York. His wife's name was again given as Lillian.
