Atkins was born at Ferris, Ill., September 3, 1863. Passed away at his home at 410 Madison street, March 24, 1911. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 26, and interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The beautiful floral offerings were expressive of the esteem of his friends. His death was caused by paralysis due to an injury to the head 19 years ago while a bridge contractor at Oskaloosa, Iowa. One operation was performed in the hope of removing the pressure on the brain, but relief was only temporary. The fact that Mr. Atkins had improved materially in the past year had raised the hopes of his family and his death was wholly unexpected. A wife and daughter, two brothers and two sisters survive. A brother, A.B. Atkins, and his wife of Ferris, Ill.; W.A. Atkins, a brother, of Udall, Kan.; Mrs. Sadie Seger of Van Buren, Ark., Mrs. Atkins sister and her cousin, Wm.
