QUILLEN DIES SUDDENLY IN MT. PLEASANT Former Fairfield resident suffers fatal heart attack this morning Charles Quillen, 67, prominent Mt. Pleasant resident and formerly of Fairfield. died suddenly at 11:30 o'clock this morning of a heart attack. Although he had been in poor health for the past two years, Mr. Quillen's death came as a distinct shock to his relatives and friends. He had returned only last week from a trip to Excelsior Springs, and was conducting the affairs of his business when he fell dead. The body was brought to the Hoskins funeral home in Fairfield. Funeral arrangements are incomplete as yet. Mr. Quillen was born Feb. 23, 1873, the son of John and Martha J. Quillen, Jefferson county pioneers. He was reared in Fairfield, and served as manager of the Fairfield Telephone Company for several years. Later he moved to Monmouth, and from there to Mt. Pleasant, where he has managed the telephone company for the past thirty years. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Glotfelty, who passed away over thirty years ago. A number of years following her death, he was remarried, to Miss Catherine Davison (sic), who survives him. Surviving him, beside (sic) his wife, are one daughter, Mrs. John Waters, of San Fernando, Calif.; one son, Marshall Quillen of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Ed Herman of 600 E. Kirkwood; and two brothers, E. E. Quillen of 309 East Kirkwood and Luther Quillen of 200 North Fifth. ----------------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Wednesday October 23, 1940 Pg. 1 Col. 5 Funeral Services For C. W. Quillen To Be On Thursday Funeral services for Charles Quillen, former Fairfield resident, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, it was announced this morning. The services will be at the Hoskins Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Sasnett (sic. spelling ??) and Dr. U. S. Smith, former Fairfield Methodist pastor. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Quillen passed away quite suddenly Tuesday forenoon, at his office in Mt. Pleasant. He had resided in that city for the past thirty years.
