John Wesley Quillen was born in Harrison county, Ohio, October 28, 1840 (sic. 1839 per inscription), and died November 30 at his home in this city. Deceased had suffered from poor health for many years, but was full of energy which kept him on his feet when many would have been in bed. He came to Jefferson county in 1866, and for many years was a business man here in our city until failing health caused him to retire. In 1870 he was married to Martha J. Frush, who survives him, with five children: Elmer E., Martin Luther, and Velda R. of Fairfield; Mrs. C. I. Shaner, of Glasgow, and Chas. W., of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Quillen was a faithful member of the M.E. church and a member of the I.O.O.F. Funeral services were conducted from the home Friday morning at 10 o'clock, by Rev. Thos. Osborn. The I.O.O.F. , of which he was a member, assisted in the services. --------------------- Birmingham Enterprise Birmingham, Van Buren, Iowa Saturday, June 11, 1870 MARRIED. In Fairfield, at the residence of the bride's parents, on the 9th inst., by Rev. C.G. Milnes, Rev. John Quillen and Miss Mattie Frush. We have not the honor of an acquaintance with the fortunate young minister named in the above notice, but know by the selection he has made of a wife, that he is a man of taste and judgment. He is, we learn, of the Methodist persuasion- of that class that "go about doing good." Our best wishes go with the happy couple, both for their temporal and spiritual welfare.
