IL 102nd Infantry He was Mustered Out on 6/6/1865 at Washington, DC Promotions: Corporal born 2/8/1843 in Hume, NY died 4/18/1932 in Afton, IA Charles M. Castle served in General Sherman's Army and made the famous March to the Sea. His Brigade Commander was Benjamin Harrison (Future U.S. President). He treasured two letters written long hand from Mr Harrison some years after the war closed. He kept a Diary giving a very accurate account of every battle and march... Castle of Chicago, Illinois. During his lifetime he wrote many short articles for the National Tribune and often referred to his war diary for accurate discriptions.
