Marken was born near Dayton, Ohio, April 6, 1843. At the age of 7 years he moved with his parents to Peru, Ind., where he resided until 1879, when he moved to Kansas and settled on a farm northwest of Topeka. In the spring of 1909 he moved to Shorey, where he resided until three years ago. On January 15, 1863, he was married to Nancy E. Silvius and to this union were born fifteen children. Marken was quite active in politics in Shawnee county. He was elected delegate to various Democratic conventions and was twice nominated for sheriff on the Democratic ticket, but was defeated both times by the late A. T. Lucas. The deceased is survived by the widow and ten children: Mrs. H. T. N. Bickell, of Perkins, Okla.; Mrs. J. M. Bennett, of Shorey; P. H. Marken, of Wabash, Ind.; G. E. and Daniel E. Marken, of Simla, Colo.; M. R. Marken, of Auburn, Wash.; H. W. Marken, of Shorey; J. L. Marken, of Elmont; O. P. Marken of Topeka, and J. W. Marken, of Markam, Okla. The body will arrive in Topeka for burial Saturday morning and interment will take place at Prairie Home cemetery.
