He passed away early Thursday morning, April 5, 2007, at Oakland-Mercy Hospital in Oakland, at the age of 91 years. Don was baptized at the rural Grace Lutheran Church. He attended rural District No. 52 School, graduating from Oakland High School in 1934. He attended the University of Nebraska, enrolling in a two year farm course. He passed away early Thursday morning, April 5, 2007, at Oakland-Mercy Hospital in Oakland, at the age of 91 years. Don was baptized at the rural Grace Lutheran Church. He attended rural District No. 52 School, graduating from Oakland High School in 1934. He attended the University of Nebraska, enrolling in a two year farm course. On February 5, 1939, Don and Melva Beck were united in marriage at her parents' farm home in rural Rosalie, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Fred and Jim. Don made his life profession in farming. In 1983, he and Melva built their retirement home in Oakland, where they still lived. Besides farming, they enjoyed traveling. They visited every state in the union and also toured France, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand and Australia. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oakland, and the Oakland Lions Club. He served on the District No. 52 School board, Bell Creek Township board and Lyons Cemetery board. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Forrest; sisters, Lois Jean Christensen and Rachel Cordes; sister-in-law, Ruth Christensen and niece, Annabelle Christensen. Survivors include his wife: Melva of Oakland; sons and daughters-in-law: Fred and Sandi on the farm, Jim and Shirley of Bellevue, Nebraska; two grandsons, Graham of Lincoln and Max of rural Lyons, Nebraska; great granddaughter, Natalie Ann Christensen of rural Lyons; brother, Myron of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister: Elaine Appleby and her husband, E. J., of Scribner; sisters-in-law: Eva Weeks of Lyons, Mary Lee Slaughter and her husband, Levon, of Rosalie; brother-in-law: Tom Beck and his wife, Betty, of Lyons; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Don will be greatly missed. FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, April 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m at the First United Methodist Church in Oakland, Nebraska VISITATION: Sunday 6- 8 p.m. with the Family Receiving Friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services Oakland Burial: Lyons Cemetery Memorials: Donor's Choice.
