Description	:	DOROTHEA EVELYN RING BURKE Dorothea was born on September 1, 1923 at her home 7 miles south of Morristown, South Dakota. She was the youngest of five children born to Warren James and Frances Edna (Davis) Ring. Her parents came to the Morristown area in 1909 and homesteaded south of Morristown. Read More	DOROTHEA EVELYN RING BURKE Dorothea was born on September 1, 1923 at her home 7 miles south of Morristown, South Dakota. She was the youngest of five children born to Warren James and Frances Edna (Davis) Ring. Her parents came to the Morristown area in 1909 and homesteaded south of Morristown. Dorothea attened Morgan Country School grades 2 through 6 from 1929 to 1934. The Ring family moved into Morristown in 1934 where she attended high school. She was starting high school when she met Marcus Burke in 1936 when Marcus' family moved from Gopher to Morristown. In the summer of 1939, Dorothea started working in the ASCS Office in McIntosh in addition to attending high school. She graded Valedictorian of her class from Morristown High School in 1940. Following her graduation, she worked for NYA (National Youth Administration) at the Morristown School as a teacher's aide. She also worked at the Ralph Nehl farm north of Watauga where she did housework and babysitting. In 1941, she returned to work at the ASCS Office in McIntosh. Dorothea was united in marriage to Marcus Burke on February 28, 1942 at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Morristown. They began their life together in Morristown and moved to the farm southwest of Morristown where they farmed and ranched together. Dorothea kept busy helping Marcus on the farm and raising their four daughters. They moved back into Morristown in 1958 where she worked at several places including the Post Office, Hanson's, Grahek's and Olson's grocery stores, the Morristown Cafe and Lemmon Livestock. In 1968 Dorothea and Marcus purchased the Morristown Elevator where she was the bookeeper until selling it in 1981. Following their retirement, they continued to spend their years together in Morristown. She was diagnosed with Cancer in December 2003 and has been battling it ever since. She passed from this life at her daughter's home in Bismarck on Sunday February 22, 2004 at the age of 80 years, 5 months, 21 days. Dorothea enjoyed dancing, playing pinochle, fishing and working crossword puzzles. She was a frequent winner of KBJM Trivia. She Cherished her times spent with family and friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Royal Neighbors. During the 1960's she bowled on a woman's bowling league in Lemmon for many years and won a trophy in the Woman's Division at a state horseshoe tournment. Surviving family members inclued her husband Marcus, Morristown, South Dakota; 4 daughters and sons-in-laws, Sharon and Allan Novak, Hugo, Minnesota, Marlys and Richard Peterson, Bismarck, North Dakota, Donna Mattern, Lorrie and George Ternes all of McIntosh, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great great granddaughters, 1 sister and brother in law, Naomi and Ken Walling, Wichita, Kansas, i sister in law Tibby Ring, Cole Harbor, North Dakota and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter Gloria in 1943; one great grandson, Carlos Diaz; one infant sister, Marie, two brothers, Earl and Bernard Ring. A service of remembrance will be held February 25, 2004 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morristown with Fr. Brian Fawcett officiating. Casketbearers include Joni Koenig, Kim Wilke, Brian Seiler, Tanner Mattern, Chris Ternes, Dora Hill, Dawn Schock, Tara Seiler, Lon Novak, Troy Peterson, Mandy Mattern, Creedence Burke and Lindsey Ternes. All great and great great grandchildren are considered honorary bearers. Interment was at the Morristown Cemetery. Evanson-Jensen Funeral home were in charge of the arrangements.
