She was married to John William Pilcher, July 2, 1874 who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1910. To this union was born five children, Purdy, Iola, Walter, William and Gertrude. The youngest child, Gertrude, died April 10, 1905 at the age of 15 years. Mrs. Pilcher was blessed in having all the surviving children at her bedside at the time of her death which occurred Friday, Feb. 7, 1936. Beside the children to mourn her death is one brother, G.W. Newman of Indianapolis, Indiana and one sister, Mrs. Belle Palmer of Chicago, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Pilcher came to Kansas from Illinois in 1877, and moved to a farm five miles east of Glasco, where they experienced many hardships incident to pioneer life. With their family they moved to Glasco in 1908. In 1879, under the preaching of the Rev. Mr. Ream, she, with her husband found the "Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world." They joined the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church in 1880 and were always friends to the itinerant preacher. Their home was always open to them and many of them have gratefully remembered the genuine hospitality of this Christian home. In the fall of 1908 her church membership was transferred to the Methodist church in Glasco. Mrs. Pilcher has lived a long consistent Christian life. She loved her church and was always keenly interested and took an active part in all its activities. She was especially interested in the musical phase of religion and could truly have been called a singing Christian. Her interests were not confined to her own church but reached out to all Christian activities. She taught the Truth Seekers Class of the Methodist Bible School for many years, She was an active member of the Women's Home Missionary Society and at the time of her death was Thank Offering Secretary. One of the great prides of her life was membership in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. At the time of her death she was Secretary-Treasurer of the local organization. The community will feel keenly the loss of this fine pioneer woman who has always been an example of upright Christian living and whose entire motif of life was friendliness. Interment was made in the Glasco Cemetery, February 10, 1935.
