He died at his home in Glasco, following a long illness, November 4, 1949. He lived through his boyhood on the farm where he was born, attended Bethel school and was a member of Bethel Methodist church. In 1908 the family moved to Glasco and at that time his church membership was transferred to the Glasco Methodist church. Throughout his life he gave his services unstintingly to the advancement of the work of God's Kingdom. Like his mother before him, he could well be called a singing Christian, and the happiness he experienced in his great Christian life was radiated through his love for, and the singing of, great hymns. Bill loved the companionship of boys and his consistent Christian life has been a great influence for good in the lives of many young men of the community. The sick and the aged were brightened by the visits and comfort given them through his rich friendship and untiring services. He was married to Gertrude Copper of Plainville, Kansas, April 19, 1944, at the Methodist parsonage in Glasco, Kansas, the Rev. R.R. Braddick officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Purd; and two sisters, Ola and Gertrude. He is survived by his widow; one brother, Walter, of Trinidad, Colo.; a nephew, Dick Pilcher; an aged uncle and aunt, Walker Newman and Mrs. Belle Palmer, of Mobile, Ala.; besides many other relatives and friends. He was a member of Glasco Lodge, No. 292, A.F.& A.M., and Priscilla Chapter, No. 260, O.E.S.; and the Glasco Lions club. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, November 6th at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. C.H. Larson. Music was by a male quartet composed of Leon Amberg, James Norton, Louis Cool and Clive Cramer, accompanied by Mrs. Edna Norton. Songs were "The Beautiful Land," "Sunset Hour," and "Go Bury Thy Sorrow." Pallbearers were Ralph Cramer, O.L. Norton, Fred Harper, Howe Jordan, Earl Plush, and Clarence Bowersox. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Fred Harper, Mrs. Howe Jordan, and Mrs. Earl Plush. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with graveside services conducted by Glasco Lodge, A.M.& A.M. Griffith Funeral Home was in charge.
