His wife upon calling him to breakfast was horrified to find him dead. Children found in Mr. Pilcher a friend who was always ready to share in their fun and work. He will be missed in the music department of the Methodist church where for many years he helped out in the bass section. At the time of his funeral the many beautiful floral offerings bespoke the love and high regard from his wide circle of friends. Purdy Ethelbert Pilcher was born in Livingston County, Illinois, April 2nd, 1875, and passed to his reward May 23, 1937, at his home near Glasco, Kansas. At the age of two years he came, with his parents, to Kansas, where they settled on a farm five miles east of Glasco. This farm has been thought of by the Pilcher family as "Home Sweet Home" for over fifty years. Here, under the influence of a Christian home, Purd grew to manhood and developed into the kind and loving neighbor that this community knows him to be. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister. On September 6th, 1899 he was united in marriage with Floy Everley, daughter of Marion and Rose Lee Everley. To this union one daughter was born, having died in infancy. For a good many years he has been an enthusiastic, tireless worker in the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges of Glasco. To know him was to love him and admire him. To practice friendship, love and truth seemed to be each day's desire. Purd was a lover of music, fond of children, ready to boost for things that are right and fight against things that are wrong. He was a kind and loving husband, a friend to all and the memory of his character will linger long in the minds of all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, Mrs. Floy Pilcher of Glasco; one sister, Iola of Glasco; two brothers, Will of Glasco and Walter of Wichita, Kansas; also many other relatives, who regard him near and dear, and a multitude of friends which are numbered by his acquaintances. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. E.E. Enyeart of Jamestown conducting, assisted by Rev. C.D. Gambriell. Interment was made in the Glasco cemetery; N.G. Stine was funeral director.
