Description	:	Dorothy Janet Wheeler, 92, was born on Oct. 25, 1922, in Ray, N.D., the first darling daughter of her parents, Bruno Herman Weyrauch and Dorothy Fern Sayles Weyrauch. Read More	Dorothy Janet Wheeler, 92, was born on Oct. 25, 1922, in Ray, N.D., the first darling daughter of her parents, Bruno Herman Weyrauch and Dorothy Fern Sayles Weyrauch. She passed away Monday, May 11, 2015. Dorothy or Dot as she was known to her friends attended both elementary and high school in Ray. Mom spent many wonderful days as a child on the family farm as one of eight children and dozens of ragamuffin cousins. Mom had many happy memories of her childhood, which included fond remembrance of the impromptu dances at neighbor’s homes during the Depression where the furniture was pushed back against the wall, Grampa Bruno played saxophone, Gramma Dolly played the piano, and Mom and her cousin Ellen wouldn’t miss a dance. After the ladies put out the potluck dinners, the children fell fast asleep in blankets in the corners until they were carried to the vehicles to return home. Dorothy married Charles Herbert “Herb” Wheeler at St. Michael’s Church in Ray on Sept. 30, 1939. They started their married life in Williston, N.D. In 1943, they moved to Bremerton, Wash., where Herb worked in the naval shipyards as an engineer. A year later, they moved back to Ray where Herb joined his father and brother in farming. Dorothy had nine children. Her husband Herb passed away in 1979. Five children survive Dorothy: Jon Dale (spouse Margaret), Tim (spouse Donna), Mary Kay (spouse Dennis/Butch), and Deb and Lori (spouse Steve). Herb and four sons preceded her in death: Charles, Billy, Bob and Steve (spouse Thelma). Her brothers Art, Derald, Sonny and Phillip also preceded her in death. In 1958, Herb joined the Corps of Engineers. Herb’s career with the Corps took them to Fort Peck, Mont.; the Air Base at Glasgow, Mont.; Anchorage, Alaska; Lebanon, Ore.; Bangkok, Thailand; and finally they settled at retirement in Portland, Ore. After Dad died, Mom sold the family home and moved to an apartment in Vancouver, Wash., then to a retirement cottage in Salem, Ore., and finally to the Waterford/Big Sky in Butte, Mont. Mom packed up her household and family through each move and transition with grace and the wonderful social skills to adapt to a new place and to make a new circle of friends. Mom adored her father Bruno and in many, many ways she was just like him: she inherited his unique ability to make, organize or improvise as was necessary to accomplish the task at hand. Mom was incredible at everything she did: cooking, keeping an immaculate home, sewing, baking, etc. As her beloved sister, and best friend, Dolores Porter said, “There wasn’t anything your mother couldn’t do…” She played her part in the community plays, sewed the costumes, was a Master at Bridge, entertained with taste and flair and though she was a lady throughout, she was also a force to be reckoned with. Mom also was an active golfer for much of her life. In the last several years, Mom enjoyed annual Girls Week reunions with her daughters, sister, sister-in-law Cora, and nieces at Georgetown Lake, Fargo, N.D., and other gathering spots where they would start the day with coffee in a bed that all joined to laugh and share memories, before they started the day, which might have been just playing cards all day in pajamas, shopping or some other joint adventure. Mom adored each of her 17 grandchildren: Ty (spouse Jesse), Charles (spouse Dani), J.D. (spouse Lynn), Clarke (spouse Cindy), Jennifer (spouse Brent), Jill (spouse Chris), Amy (spouse Chad), Robin (spouse John), Derrick (spouse Regina), Daniel Bruno, Matthew, Chris (spouse Jana), Josh (spouse Veronica/Piper), Linn (spouse Carlos), David, Zachary and Katie; and she considered her great and great -great-grandchildren the most marvelous and beloved of God’s ongoing creations: Great-grandchildren, Erin (spouse Derek), James, Niko, Caitlyn, Austin, Hannah, Adam, Bodie, Ethan, Jake, Sydney, Marin, Gracie, Colby, Ethan, Adriana, Emerson, Amelia Jo, Logan and Annalie and great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Daniel. Mom was a life-long Catholic and to the end she participated in Mass and the Rosary. God blessed Mom with many friends and kind caregivers at the end of her life journey -- and you know who you are… Dorothy’s family and friends will recite a Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at Duggan Dolan Mortuary, Butte, Mont. Dorothy’s family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church, Butte, Mont., and Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Reception details will be announced after the funeral service. Dorothy’s ashes will be interred next to her husband and sons at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Ray, N.D. The family suggests that memorials be sent to Catholic Social Services of Montana, Helena, Mont.
