Doss' entire life was spent in the Glasco community where his cheery smile and indomitable courage won the love and admiration of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. His life was destined to be a struggle against handicaps brought about by infantile paralysis suffered at the age of nine. By sheer will power and determination he rose above the weakness of his twisted body to become an example of courage, ablilty, and self-reliance to all who knew him. Friendly helpfulness characterized his relationship with others. At the age of 14 Doss untied with the Christian Church. A firm conviction in the ultimate goodness of his creator has been the cornerstone of his creed. Doss was the oldest of a group of six children, four boys and two girls. Willis Harper of Glasco, Mrs. Merle Beaver of Manhattan, Mrs. Marjorie Smith of Garden City, Geo. Harper of Glasco and John Harper, Jr. of Glasco. His passing registers the first break in the ranks of the family circle.
