Harper Dies; Lifetime Resident Here Willis Alexander Harper, well known farmer of this community, died suddenly Sunday, March 15th, following a heart attack. His sudden passing comes as a shock to the entire community. Willis Alexander Harper, second son of John A. and Emily Harper, was born August 7, 1899, on a farm northwest of Glasco, and passed away due to a heart attack March 15, 1953, at the age of 53 years, 7 months, and 8 days. Willis grew to manhood on the farm with his parents, three brothers and two sisters. On December 18, 1918, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Belcher, at St. Joseph, Mo. To this union was born one son, Harland Hartley. Willis united with the Glasco Christian church at an early age. Throughout the years of his life in the community, the solid fundamentals of integrity, honesty and industry, which were implanted through home and church training, found their expression. While his interests were primarily agricultural, immediate family and grandchildren, Willia was a friend and neighbor to all in need, always ready to carry his share of community responsibilities. he was a good husband and father. Willis was preceded in death by his father, mother, and older brother, Doss. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, and son, Harland, daughter-in-law, Marcelyn, and two grandchildren, Vicki Diane and Roderick Jan. Two sisters and two brothers also survive. Other relatives and a host of friends join the family in their sorrow at his passing. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 17th, at 2:30 o'clock at the Christian church, conducted by the Rev. Kiser of Herington. Music was by Dean Porter, soloist, and the Methodist quartet with Mrs. Edw. Berndt at the piano. Casketbearers were Leo Wilson, Robert Chestnutt, Jean Noel, John Jones, Chester Loe, Lynn Vass. Flower bearers were Mrs. Orlando Ruth, Mrs. Fred Harper, Mrs. John Jones, and Mrs. Chester Loe. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with Glasco Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
