We understand that it was attended by the largest concourse of people ever known at Rochester on a similar occasion - the number being estimated at about two thousand. Tipton Advertiser 12 Aug 1869 pg 3 ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE--In the death of Dr. Noah Green, which occurred at his home in Rochester, on Thursday morning of last week, the name of another of the early residents of this county was stricken from the list of the living. Dr. Green, we are informed, came here more than thirty years ago, when he was a mere lad. He commenced the practice of medicine early in life, and continued in it until that invidious destroyer, consumption, which finally made him its victim, incapacitated him for active duties. His funeral services at Rochester, on last Sabbath, were largly attended, both by the Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member, and by citizens generally. The ferryman at Rochester was unable to recross, after the exercises and before nightfall, those who came from the west side of the river. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. R.A. Ferguson of Pedee, and the Masonic ceremonies conducted by Deputy Grand Master O.P. Watters of Muscatine. Tipton Advertiser 2 Sept 1869 pg 3 OBITUARY--Died at his residence in Rochester, Cedar County, August 5th, 1869, of consumption, Noah Green, M.D., in the 44th year of his age. Dr. Green was born in Licking county, Ohio, and came with his parents to Iowa in 1837, when 12 years of age, and settled in Rochester. He began the practice of medicine in 1848. In 1849 he went to California, and returned in 1852. He was settled in Muscatine for some time, but recently returned to Rochester, where his family stil reside. He was confined for about eight months, but not until near the last did he lose all hope of at least a partial recovery. About eighteen months before his death he made profession of religion and became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Pedee. Deceased's funeral took place on Sunday, August 8th, from his late residence, and the lowest estimate put on the crowd present was one thousand. The funeral discourse was preached from Heb. 4:9 - the text having been selected by himself before his death- by Rev. R.A. Ferguson, pastor of the church of which deceased was a member; after which the Masonic fraternity took charge of the remains and proceeded to the cemetery, escorted by the Odd Fellows, where the ceremonies were preformed in an impressive manner by Deputy Grand Master O.P. Waters, of Muscatine. The procession was about a mile in length. It will be especially gratifying to Dr. Green's many friends to know that was an earnest and devoted Christian for the last eighteen months of his life, and died in the triumphs of a living faith. He was a very earnest and successful physician and gained a high reputation in his profession. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. In his death Cedar County loses one of her most highly respected citizens. He had his life insured for $2,000.
