Description	:	Edith Schottel O'Connor 12/11/1922 - 12/31/2011 Edith Schottel 0'Connor passed away peacefully at the Seasons on December 31, 2011 with her two daughters at her side. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Edith was born in Reno on December 11, 1922 to Laura and Delbert Schottel. She attended local schools and graduated Reno High School in 1941 where she and her brother Ken were known as the Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell of Reno High. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Edith was born in Reno on December 11, 1922 to Laura and Delbert Schottel. She attended local schools and graduated Reno High School in 1941 where she and her brother Ken were known as the Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell of Reno High. She began her 36 year career with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in Auburn, California as an operator on August 4, 1941 and retired in 1977 as Traffic Operations Manager. Edith married George O'Connor in 1947 and was married 33 years until his death in 1980. They moved to Reno in 1977 after her retirement. Her roots were planted within the Comstock where several family members mined and lived in Silver City and Virginia City and often told stories of Virginia City before it was a tourist location. She was an avid sports fan and could often tell you who won the World Series thirty years ago and was a 49ers fan in the days of Y.A. Tittle. She was also an excellent artist who took up painting in her sixties. Edith was from an era of civility, courtesy, honesty, hard work and responsibility and was a two time cancer survivor who never let it get her down and ultimately beat the disease. She had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and was generous and kind. She was preceded in death by her parents Laura and Delbert, brother Ken, and husband George. She leaves behind her daughter Maureen Keller (Steve), daughter #2 Gale Williams (Bill), her constant feline companion K.C. and canine grandson Cooper. She will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be at the Newcastle District Cemetery in Newcastle, California Friday, January 6, 2012 at 1 p.m. Published in Gold Country Media Newspapers on January 4, 2012
