Funeral services were held Monday at the Mansfield Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John A. Lippincott. Serving as pall bearers were Roy Dean Mansfield, Dr. James R. Beckwith, Thomas W. Gidley, Charles D. Costcllo, Lynn McNulty, J. F. Wearin jr., Dr. P.I. L. SchefTel and Max Dashner. Mrs. Costello and Mrs. McNulty cared for the flowers. Burial was in the Malvern cemetery. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight, Edward was born in Malvern Nov. 7, 1889, and spent almost his entire life in the Malvern community. He attended the public schools here and later studied pharmacy at Highland Park college in Des Moines, becoming a registered pharmacist after completing this course. He started his career in this profession immediately after completing his schooling, working first for a year in -Chicago and later buying a drug store at Treynor. When the U. S. entered World War I, Mr. Knight sold his drug store and enlisted in the armed forces in April, 1918. He went overseas the following August and served with the AEF in France until the end of the conflict, receiving his discharge in June, 1919. Upon his return from the war he purchased an interest in the Collins Drug Co. from the late E. C. Collins, operating this with his partner for a number of years and then buying Mr. Collins' interest after his death. He developed this into one of the outstanding business enterprises of the area. In 1920 he was married to Fern Wightman of Sidney and they established their home in Malvern. They have one son, Edel, who after his graduation from the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy, became associated with his father in their drug store and continued to operate it after Mr. Knight retired. In 1962 Mr. Knight was honored by the Pharmacy profession for aving completed 50 years active service in this work. Mr. Knight had a number of community interests. He served as president of the Malvern Commercial club and was active in its various projects for community development. He was a charter member of Harry Hammons post of the American Legion, and was commander of this for a term. He was especially active in the Legion during the time of the building of' the Malvern Community building, a major project of the post. He was a member of the First Methodist church, serving on its board of trustees and in other official positions for many years. He had a very wide circle of friends and was able in his later years to travel extensively in the U. S. He is survived by Mrs. Knight, his son and daughter-in-law; three grandsons, Matthew, Mark and Ted; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Klamm of Williamsburg, Mo.; and by many friends.
