Knight Dies Suddenly Friday Morning Long time Reistdent of Malvern, Drops Dead Feb 8 Funeral Sunday This community was greatly shocked last Friday noon to learn that John E. Knight, a long time resident of Malvern, had been found dead at his home on north Third avenue shortly before noon. He had been about town as usual that morning and seemed as unusuall well, visiting and joking with the men he met at the stores. He had cleared the snow from the walks and then gone up town again and evidently was just returning and had just stepped upon the porch when he was stricken with heart failure and fell, right where he was, partly on the porch. There was no evidence of a struggle so death must have been instantaneous. Shortly afterward, his son, Edward, of the Collins Drug company, coming home for lunch found him lying there lifeless. It was a terrible shock to him. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist churchin Malvern which was filled almost to capacity with sorrowing friends and equaintances. A profusion of beautiful flowers from friends, societies, and organizations tostifed to the love and esteem in which he was held. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Paul h. Hicks, assisted by District Superintendent M. A. Gable who spoke feelingly of the pleasant associations with Mr. Knight when mr. Gable was pastor here, and of his true worth as a man and a Christian. Mr. Hicks preached the sermon. A special choir, R. W. Griswell and j. R. McClymon and Mrs. J. H. Beckwith and Mrs. L. A. Talbot sang, Mrs. L D. Fletcher accompanied them. The local Masonic lodge attended in a body as a guard of honor at the grave . xxxxxxxxxxxxx of the order, under direction of Past Master C. S. royce. Burial was made in the Malvern cemetery, The pall berers were W. D. McCausland, L. A. Barkus, L. D. Fletcher, F. R. Chantry, Dr. J. W. Baer, T. L. Salyers, Roy Donner and Harry Stone. The following obituar was given: John Edward Knight, son of William and Mary Knight, was born june 5, 1857 at Chicago, Ill. and passed away at his home in Malvern Feb 8, 1928. On Dec, 19 1888 he was united in marriage to Rose Barrnett, and to this union two children were born Edward W. of Malvern and Mrs. Otto D. Klamm, of Parkville Mo. Mr. Knight came to this community when a boy and has since resided in or near Malvern. he united with the Mehodist church shortly after his marriage and has been a loyal member, serving a large portion of the time as a member of the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Masonic Order, the Malvern Fire departmen, and the Malvern Gun club in all of which he took an active interest. He was a good citizen, a kind husband and father, and a loyal friend. He leaves to mourn his passing his son and daughter, one brother Charlie, of Malvern two grandchildren besides a host of friends from the Malvern Leader page 1
