Edwin Arthur Hascall, 88, of Coin, Iowa, passed away on May 11, 2022, at his home in Coin, Iowa. Edwin was born on April 5, 1934, to Gordon Cheney Hascall and Carolyn Grace White Hascall in a log cabin outside of Emerson, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm with his parents and six siblings. He graduated from Emerson High School. While attending Northwest Missouri State College, he met and married Betty Ann Crider on January 3, 1954. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters. Their first daughter, Sherry, died in infancy. In 1956, their second daughter, Vicki, was born. The family lived in Mt. Ayr for two years and in 1957 settled in Coin, Iowa. Edwin spent two years in Kellerton, Iowa, beginning his teaching career. He and Betty then moved to Coin, Iowa where he continued teaching. In 1959 Coin, Braddyville, and College Springs (Amity) schools combined to form the South Page School District where he continued teaching math classes for a total of 40 years. Edwin retired in 1995. After his retirement, he continued his love of teaching math by helping out the Clarinda School District when his oldest grandson was in high school. He had a way of making math understandable and loved to share his knowledge. He was fondly remembered by many of his students over the years. His family often heard people come up saying, "Mr. Hascall," and continue reminiscing about their time together. He loved these conversations and the connections he had with his students and their families. Edwin's strong faith carried him through his life. He was an active member of the Coin United Methodist Church serving many years on the local board and as treasurer. He had a passion for helping others and this was evident as he was an active member of his community serving in several areas including being a member of the Coin Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, spending many years on the Coin City Council, and several years as a trustee for the township. As a teacher, he filled his summers off with jobs that included counting cars and being a farmhand. He was a current member of the Nodaway Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He joined Emmanuel Lodge and Twin Naughts Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Blanchard which later consolidated with the Clarinda chapter. He served as Worthy Matron in Twin Naughts Chapter, Blanchard and Clarinda Chapter in Clarinda several times over the years. In 2008, he began his journey in the Grand Chapter of Iowa and was Grand Patron in 2011. Fellow members were his second family as he loved spending time with them. Edwin and Betty loved to travel. Their many trips, which included visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and Europe were fondly remembered. Edwin also took pride in his yard and garden. He had great joy in sharing the produce from his garden with others throughout the years. He always maintained his yard and loved watching the squirrels and birds enjoy corn in the backyard. He was a loving father and spent many hours involved with Vicki in her school activities. He faithfully attended her sporting events and also helped as a scorekeeper at her games. Whether it be at home practicing with the softball or on the basketball court in the Coin gym, Edwin took the time to practice with Vicki. The tradition of attending school events continued on through his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edwin loved people, he loved to hear about their lives and share stories. He wanted to be involved in people's lives - family, church, friends, students - it was often said, 'He knows no strangers.' People in his life were what kept him going from day to day. Thank you for being a part of his life. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Crider Hascall, their infant daughter, Sherry, his parents, his in-laws, Nelson and Ruth Crider, sister and brother-in-law Grace and John Lewellen, and stepmom, Twyla Yeager Hascall. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Dale) Fulk of Clarinda, IA, grandchildren Reg (Marcey) Fulk of Aurora, CO, Kalen (Marci) Fulk of Clarinda, and Molly McNeely of Maysville, MO. Brother-in-law Garrie (Gloria) Crider of Tucson, AZ. Brothers and sisters and their spouses; Kirk (Linda) Hascall, Carol (Earl) Ray, Harold (Carol) Hascall, Donald (Cheryl) Hascall, and Georgia Aileen Hascall, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, various nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
