Family information lists her maiden name as McClelland. Eliza is listed as age 44 on the 1880 Lawrence, Douglas, Kansas, census with her husband and her four children. This census lists the birth place of her parents as Scotland. It is probable that Eliza was a daughter of Robert and Agnes McClelland, who were listed on the 1850 census in Allegheny, (city) Pennsylvania. Robert (age 54) and his wife, Agnes, were both listed as born in Scotland. The rest of the family members were born in Pennsylvania and were listed as Mary A., 23; David, 17; Margaret J., 15; Eliza, 13; & Martha, 10. -----------R. McClelland was listed on the 1859 voter census in Willow Springs Township, Douglas County, Kansas Territory, with a family of 7, no minors. His settlement date is listed as 1857. --- D. McClelland, a male age 28, born in Pennsylvania, was listed on the 1860 Willow Springs, Douglas, Kansas Territory census, with Agnes, age 64, born in Scotland. Martha, age 18, born in Pennsylvania, was also listed, as well as Dennis Doyle and Doyle family members. If Eliza married in Douglas County, the record was most likely destroyed when Quantrill burned much of Lawrence in 1863, including the court house. Research shows that Eliza was a sister of Mary A. Conner, #126518117, whose 1860 marriage was printed in the Kansas Historic Quarterly, Vol. 21, page 452.
