The deceased was born April 17, 1878, at Houghton, and was a lifelong resident of that vicinity. On Sept. 11, 1909, in St. John's Catholic church, Houghton, she was married to Peter Mertens who died in 1927. She was a member of St. John's church and of the Rosary Society.
