This family is part of the founding family of St. Peter's and Paul Lutheran Church, Castle Grove township, Jones County, Iowa. After Johann Burrack's marriage to Engeline, the couple lived on a farm near Langworthy, Iowa. Five years later they moved to a farm in Castle Grove Township, where they purchased 500 acres of land. They retired in March 1912, and moved to Monticello, Iowa. In 1907 a return trip was made to Germany, by Heinrich and their daughter, Augusta. In 1931, the celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary, at that time many couples did not get to celebrate 50 years of marriage. A company of ninety relatives and friends met for dinner. After an afternoon of songs and suitable talks, a fine supper was served. ENGELINE BURRACK DIED SUDDENLY AT HER HOME MONDAY Rev. Frederick Kehren Conducted Funeral Services This Afternoon At Castle Grove Lutheran Church Mrs. Engeline Burrack, 77, died suddenly at her home on East Second street Monday night at 8:15 following a paralytic stroke. She had been in ill health for months, having suffered two previous strokes this year. Funeral services for Mrs. Burrack were this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the Castle Grove Lutheran church in Castle Grove. Rev. Frederick Kehren, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church of Wayne township, conducted the services assisted by the Rev. Arnold Thalacker, pastor of the Castle Grove church. Burial was in the Castle Grove cemetery. Mrs. Burrack was the daughter of the late Arend and Anna Grumm Zimmerman and was born near Sandhill in Wayne township, Sept. 4, 1860. She was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township by the Rev. J. J. Oetjen, April 8, 1877. She was married to Henrich Janssen Burrack Jan. 25, 1881 at the home of her parents by the Rev. C. Mardorf and in 1931 Mr. and Mrs. Burrack observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary together at their home in Monticello. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm near Langworthy for five years, later moving to Castle Grove, where, in the course of time, they purchased 500 acres of land. They retired from active farming March 1, 1912 and established their home in Monticello. Mr. Burrack died Dec. 7, 1936. Mrs. Burrack was a kind and loving mother and will be sadly missed by her five children and all persons who knew her. Mr. and Mrs. Burrack became the parents of seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving are three sons, Henry Burrack of Hopkinton, Lewis Burrack of Monticello and the Rev. William Burrack of Hartford, S. D.; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Willms of Greene, and Augusta Burrack, who lived with her mother in Monticello; eight grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. August Toenjes of Amber, Mrs. Henry Behrends and Mrs. George Mardorf, both of Monticello; three brothers, J. B. Zimmerman of Monticello, William and Herman Zimmerman, both of Amber. * * * * * * * * * * *
