Mr. Baker farmed in the Soldier area until 1943. He later worked for Kaw Valley Lumber 10 years, then was a truck driver for Kaw Valley Dehydrator until he retired in 1970. He was born March 6, 1891, at Buckhart, Mo., the son of William Henry and Sophronia Peebles Baker. He moved from Topeka to an Onaga nursing home five years ago. Mr. Baker was a member of Evangel Temple in Topeka. He was married to Ethel J. Hunter in 1953 at Lawrence. She died July 23, 1978. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Pearl Baker in 1918 and Mrs. Vernia Rice in 1982, and three sons, Ralph Baker in 1918, Ira Baker in 1962 and Harry Baker in 1971. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Grace Leach, Holton, Mrs. Ruby Branam, Denison, Mrs. Dorothy Wegner, Onaga, and Mrs. Evelyn Cress, Burson, Calif.; two sons, Arley Baker, Woodbine, and Ray Baker, Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Theodore Baker, Springfield, Mo.; 35 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
