Description	:	Flora Beth Pence Cook, age 90, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Topeka. Beth was born May 13, 1922 in Elmont, Kansas, the daughter of David V. Pence and Grace M. Frantz Pence. She was a member of the Northland Christian Church in Topeka and the Friends Sunday School Class. She grew up in the Bethel Community, northwest of Topeka and was active in the Bethel Sunday School and the Bethel 4-H Club and was a member of the Shawnee County 4-H Band. Beth was born May 13, 1922 in Elmont, Kansas, the daughter of David V. Pence and Grace M. Frantz Pence. She was a member of the Northland Christian Church in Topeka and the Friends Sunday School Class. She grew up in the Bethel Community, northwest of Topeka and was active in the Bethel Sunday School and the Bethel 4-H Club and was a member of the Shawnee County 4-H Band. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in May of 1940 and attended the Strickler Business College in Topeka. She worked for the Extension Service in Manhattan and the State School Retirement Board in Topeka. She married Fred E. Cook May 2, 1948 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1993. She was a member and secretary of the original Board of Directors that founded and organized Rural Water District #4 of Shawnee County. She worked many years as office secretary at Second Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Mocek of Lee s Summit, MO; her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Linda Cook of Topeka; her granddaughter, Rachel Cook of Topeka; grandsons, Phillip Mocek and Sonya of Seattle, WA and Andrew Mocek and Abby of Lee s Summit, MO and David Cook of Manhattan; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Delores Pence of Gladstone, MO; sister-in-law Jean Holcomb of Topeka; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, David Pence Jr. and Virginia Pence. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Park Christian Church at 1535 SW Clay Street. She will lie in state Wednesday from noon -8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northland Christian Church Student Activity Scholarship Fund, Topeka Youth for Christ or Alzheimer s Association and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
