Freddie, son of Mrs. Rose Brown, and the late William O. Brown of Clyde, has lived in Valdez for several years, working as a mechanic on the dock there. According to the stories reaching Clyde, Freddie was at work at the dock and Mary had gone there at 5:00 when he was due to get off work. the crew had an hour of work to finish and Mary left the dock area planning to return at 6:00. However, the quake struck a few minutes after five and the resulting tidal wave smashed the two docks into the sea. Two brothers, Carl and Charles, and a sister, Norma of Clyde are survivors, and another brother also survive. Lost at sea in 1964 Alaska earthquake. Also a memorial stone in Valdez, Alaska.
