CHRISTY CLAIMED BY DEATH Crisfield Business Man Passed Away Thursday Night Had Been Ill For Number Of Years George A. Christy, one of Crisfield's most prominent business men, died at his home on Maryland Avenue, in this city, Thursday night at 11.15 o'clock from a complication of diseases. Mr. Christy was confined to his bed for eight weeks before his death, but had been in ill health for a number of years. Five years ago he suffered a contracted illness and for a time his life was despaired of by members of his family and his friends. While he has given his attention to business matters since that time, he never fully recovered his health. George A. Christy had been engaged in the sea food business for more than forty years, starting in 1890 while he was yet a young man. It can truly be said that no seafood dealer in Crisfield was more progressive and energetic in the development of this industry than he. Full of energy, perseverance and initiative, from a modest beginning, he built up a trade that extended from one end of the country to the other and the business he established is now one of the largest of its kind in this city. Some years ago Mr. Christy purchased a farm near town and for some time gave his attention to farming and dairying, having one of the finest herds of pure bred cows in the state. For the past few years he has been engaged in the packing and shipping of green tomatoes. Mr. Christy was born on Smiths Island nearly sixty-one years ago, but moved to Crisfield with his parents when a boy, and since then has always resided in this city. He was a member of Immanuel M. E. Church, the Modern Woodmen of America and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was one of the best known citizens of this community and had a large circle of friends who heard of his death with deep regret. The deceased is survived by his widow, who, before their marriage, was Miss Elizabeth Sterling, daughter of the late Revell and Margaret Sterling; two sons Clarence A. and George R. Christy, who were associated with their father in business; one brother, William A. Christy; and one sister, Mrs. Leonard F. Mason, all of Crisfield. Funeral services will be held from his late home tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John J. Bunting. Interment will be in Crisfield Cemetery.
