Christy, head of one of Maryland's largest seafood packing plants, died in the Marine Hospital in Baltimore last Sunday evening. He was 56 years of age. Mr. Christy had been in ill health for about six months, but had been active in his business affairs until about two weeks before he died. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Sterling Christy and the late George A. Christy, was born in Crisfield and lived here all his life. Following the death of his father, about 20 years ago, he assumed the control and management of George A. Christy & Sons, oyster and crab packers, founded by his father in 1890. An alert and aggressive business man, he expanded this business tremendously, distributing the firm's products in almost every state in the Union, from coast to coast. A pioneer in the planting of seed oysters, his company several years ago began raising its own oysters on bottoms in Virginia and Maryland. He was president of the Ledge Rock Oyster Co., which handled the Virginia oyster plantings. At one time he operated the Christy Marine Railways; also an ice manufacturing plant, in the Jersey section. Mr. Christy was an authority on seafood and its production and sale. His firm was also at one time a large handler of Chesapeake Bay fish. It holds a dominant position in the distribution of oysters and of other seafoods, from this area. Mr. Christy was keenly interested in problems affecting seafood, in civic affairs, and was widely known and admired in the Bay country. His business acumen was respected, he was helpful to his city and State and to his fellowmen, and had earned the respect and esteem of a large circle of friends in many sections who mourn his death. He was a member and a liberal contributor of Immanuel Methodist Church, and a member of Crisfield Lodge No. 1044, B. P. O. E. Mr. Christy rested at his home on Main street until Wednesday afternoon, when funeral services were held in Immanuel Methodist Church at 2.30 o'clock, with Rev. Otis P. Jefferson officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert E. Green, pastor of Asbury church, and Rev. Melvin E. Wheatley, pastor of Northeast Methodist Church, Northeast, Md. Interment was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Bearers were Littleton T. Dryden, Noah Ward, Nathaniel Riggin, Charles W. Howeth, Loren Sterling, Wilbert J. Coulbourne, Howard Drewer, and Roy C. Bradshaw. Surviving him, besides his mother, are his widow, Mrs. Olive Sterling Christy, one daughter, Donna Jean Christy Lee, one son, Richard W.
