Death was due to a cancer from which he had suffered for five years. Every way was tried to see if a cure could be found. He took treatment at Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Hastings, Michigan, and other places. It was thought that at one time a cure was effected. He was always cheerful and always said that he thought a cure for cancer could be found. Until the last he never gave up hope. George King was born in New London, Henry County, Iowa, on September 16, 1853, where he lived until he was eighteen years old when he came to Page County, Iowa. He lived there until he was marries. On February 26, 1879, he was married to Miss Leona Gravatt and to this union were born six children; four boys and two girls. A son and a daughter preceded their father to the world from which no traveler returns. Shortly after he was married he came to Montgomery County and had made his home in Villisca ever since. His one and only occupation was that of farming. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America Lodge and joined the Methodist Church when a young man. Mr. King is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona King, three sons and a daughter, Bert and Ross King of Colina, South Dakota, and Frank and Maud of Villisca, three brothers and three sisters, Taylor and Columbus of Villisca, and John King of Ashland, Nebraska, Mrs. J. L. Holland of Villisca, Mrs. Elizabeth Peckham of New London, Iowa, and Mrs. Louise Le Cornu of Walla Walla, Washington, all of whom were present at the funeral except, Mrs. Le Cornu of Washington. Funeral services were held at the home two miles east of Villisca at half past ten o'clock Sunday morning and were conducted by Rev. J. W. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist Church of Villisca. The M. W. A. had charge of the last funeral rites. Interment was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Mr. King was a faithful Christian and was always of a cheerful disposition. When a person would thing that there was almost no hope he was always saying that he would get well. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were W. E. Williams of Gravity, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Williams and Mrs. J. Hughes of New Market, Iowa and Harry Gravatt of Beloit, Kansas. The Villisca Review, July 13, 1911
