George was born February 11, 1901, in Grafton, North Dakota to John W. and Mary (Pravda) Lambach. His parents lived in North Dakota and Minnesota before moving in 1912 to Ryegate. George was the eldest of 15 children, 12 of whom survived to adulthood. His early life was spent on the farm, helping with the equipment for custom harvesting. George was born February 11, 1901, in Grafton, North Dakota to John W. and Mary (Pravda) Lambach. His parents lived in North Dakota and Minnesota before moving in 1912 to Ryegate. George was the eldest of 15 children, 12 of whom survived to adulthood. His early life was spent on the farm, helping with the equipment for custom harvesting. In 1923 he worked for Albert Esp on the ranch, then at a Texaco station for Robert Bray. This evolved into work with Bray extracting honey, making "Honey Boy Syrup" and "Spud Chips". George later worked in Bozeman at a Ford garage. At this time Ford cars came "Knocked Down" and standing on end in railroad cars. His job was to assemble the cars. Hie returned to Big Timber and worked for Sektnen and Snyder as a mechanic on Nash cars. In 1931 he went to Spokane, Washington for a course in aviation mechanics, but with the depression starting he was not able to find employment. He returned to Big Timber to work for Oie Motor Company repairing Chevrolets. In 1931 George married Ova Phillips. Four children were born to that union - Alben, Bernard, Corwin, and Daisy. Due to poor health in 1937 he had to leave auto mechanic and started his own repair shop. Except for a two-year stint at Holly Sugar in Hardin, George spent the remainder of his life in the shadow of his beloved Crazy Mountains, hunting and fishing. Although George only attained the early grades in a country school because of various moves and necessary farm work, he always encouraged and helped his siblings and children to attain the highest level of education they could. He embraced the many technological and scientific advances in his lifetime, adapting them for his life and community. George volunteered for the draft during World War II and was disappointed to be turned down. He later learned the draft board felt they needed him more at home since he could keep machinery working, forge new parts which were unavailable, and create new uses for old parts. During this time he also taught shop classes in the high school since teachers were in short supply. Geoge had the ability to design and build two homes and an early mobile home suitable for his family. Popular Mechanics and National Geographic magazines were a constant in his home, and he usually had a project in progress from one and dream from the other. George is survived by three children, Bernard of Bradford, New Hampshire, Corwin of Martinez, California, and Daisy of Billings; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Laura Steel of Corvallis and Margaret Drivdahl of Big Timber; and one brother, Pat of Sheridan, Wyoming.
