Long, 83, of rural Robinson, died Sunday morning, July 29, 2012, at the Falls City Care Center, Falls City, Nebraska, where she had been a resident four and a half years. Geraldine was born October 21, 1928, at McCune, Kansas, one of three children of the late Ruben and Dorothy Lange Neher. She grew up at McCune where she attended schools, and later graduating from high school. She worked to receive her bachelor's of science degree from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska prior to receiving her master's of science degree from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia, KS. She taught school in the area for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. Her career started in the country schools prior to teaching at the Everest Middle School for over 26 years. In 1981, she was nominated and received one of the teacher's highest honors "Master Teacher Award". Mrs. Long was a longtime member of the Good News Assembly of God Church in Falls City, Nebraska where she had been very active through the years. She served on the pastoral search committee, song leader, Sunday School teacher, and a VBS teacher. Geraldine was a member of the American Association of University Women; Brown County Teachers Association; Brown County Home Extension Unit; and American Artist Club. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority; enjoyed painting and traveling. Geraldine enjoyed visiting Alaska, Israel, Haiti, and many trips around the United States and Panama Canal. Her last trip she took was to New York with Steve and Deana. She also enjoyed all the Robinson Lions Club functions. Geraldine was a very active member with the Brown County Historical Society of which she provided tours at the Ag Museum of which was a trip back in time for her. Geraldine enjoyed the short time that she and Wayne had raising their nephew Chris and nieces Peggy and Karen Bomley after their mother passed away of polio. Her greatest accomplishment was of raising two wonderful sons of which she was very proud of. She married Wayne W. Long, April 11, 1948, at United Chapel Methodist Church at McCune. They made their home on a farm near White Cloud for many years until his death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Steve in 2012, Daniel in infancy in 1959; and a sister Lillian Bomley in 1954. Survivors include a son Sam (Arlene) Long of rural White Cloud; a daughter in law Deana Long, also of White Cloud; a brother Harold (LaRhoda) Neher of rural Hiawatha; two grandsons: Anthony and Joshua; and a great-granddaughter Ione Clair Schneider. A celebration of Geraldine's life is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, at the Good News Assembly of God Church in Falls City. Ian Shaffer and Bob Nazerenus will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Tuesday and where the family will meet from 6:30 until 8 that evening.
