Mr. Burghart worked at Morrell's Meat Packing Plant until 1951 and then he worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. until he retired as a supervisor in 1979. He was born May 22, 1916 in Topeka, the son of George and Amelia Brediger Burghart. Mr. Burghart was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608, the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Nocturnal Adoration Society at St. Joseph and the Goodyear Leisure Club. He was married to Virginia Urban on Aug. 22, 1939 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Judith Savoie, Joan M. Smith and Angela Herman, all of Topeka; four sons, Godfrey A. Burghart Jr, Stephen Burghart, Mark A. Burghart and Gregory Burghart, all of Topeka; two sisters, Mary A. Schmidt, Topeka and Barbara Hotte, Bridport, Vt.; a brother, Jacob Burghart, Topeka; and 13 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Burghart will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the Nocturnal Adoration Society will recite a rosary at 6 p.m., a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., and a Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary and Chalice Ceremony will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 S.W.
