The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, August 27, 1936 ============================= Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Watts were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Edgar Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Homer B.Hix. The singers were Celia Merrill, Mrs. Wayne Nicholls, M. E. Cushing and George Slonecker. The pallbearers were B. G. Rydholm, Irvin, Essinger, Lloyd Hungerford, Cecil Strawser, Charles Caldwell and Dr. T. J. Lindgren. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery. She passed away at the Hastings hospital Friday. She had recovered from an operation performed three weeks before and preparations were being made for her to go home and while talking with the doctor and nurses she fell to the floor and passed away shortly after. Grace Fern Horton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Horton, was born at Oak, Nebraska, October 10, 1884, and departed this life at the Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska, August 20, 1936, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 10 days. She was united to Charles E. Watts January 22, 1913, and they moved onto a farm near Deweese, Nebraska, where they lived at the time of her death. To this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters, Robert, James, Donald, Gordon, Ruth and Lydia. She joined the Christian Church during a revival south of Angus and has lived a consistent Christian life. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death. Besides her husband and immediate family she leaves to mourn her departure, two sisters, Mrs. Thompson Welch, Edgar, Nebraska; Mrs. John Shill, Webber, Kansas; two brothers, Earl Horton of Neligh, Nebraska, and Floyd Hortoini of Superior, Nebraska, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Those from out-of-town in attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Charles Watts in Edgar Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. George Watts, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Watts and daughter, May, Wm. Watts and Mrs. Bernice Watts of Parks, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs, Alvin Berry of Hagler, Mrs. Homer Clements of Imperial, Mr. and Mrs. Jack DeHart Jr. and family and Frank Watts and family of Deweese, Mr. and Mrs. John Shill and family and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shill and family of Webber, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Horton and family of Superior, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Horton of Neligh, Mr. and Mre. Ernest Woodard and sister of Chester, Mrs. Simington, Mrs. Dillman, Will Comstock and son, Mrs. James Wilkins and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rennick of Nelson, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Fergeson of Oak, Mr. anid Mrs. Andy Welch, Mrs. Urbauer, Mr. and Mrs. Canipe, Mrs. Berkey and Mrs. Snyder of Davenport and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Illingworth of Fairfield.
