God called him from this life to the life beyond on March 19, 1962, reaching the age of 56 years, 6 months and 3 days. Death came accidently while Harry was at work on his own ranch, when a grain auger collapsed, crushing him underneath and causing his sudden and unexpected departure. Harry received part of his education at Langdon, N. Dak. later moving to Littlefield, Texas, where he finished his schooling and grew to manhood. In 1922 he moved to California where he later took up farming, first at Merced and then in 1952 moving to Glenn, California with his family. While at Glenn he took an active part in community affairs, always ready to help cheerfully where there was a need. On May 25, 1924 Harry felt his lost condition and through much prayer and true repentance he found his Savior and Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite) by Min. F.C. Fricke, to which he remained faithful to the end. Soon after his conversion he chose for his life's companion Marie Loewen. She preceded him in death in May 1944. On Feb. 24, 1946, he again entered matrimonial life and chose me, Leona Nightengale of Copeland, Kansas for his wife. We have shared our joys and sorrows for 16 short years. Our home was blessed with five children who with me mourn his tragic passing. The children, all of the home are: Geraldine, Doris, Kathy, David and Janice. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Loewen, 3 brothers, Jack Spence, Jake H. and Dick Loewen, all of Glenn; 4 sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Dave Loewen) of Walnut Hill, Florida; Marie (Mrs. Pete Loewen) of Winton, California; Mary (Mrs. Dave Giesbrecht) and Annie (Mrs. Walter Ensz) both of Glenn; also a host of other relatives and friends are mourning the loss of our loved one. We mourn not as those without hope, for Harry often expressed his unworthiness of God's love for him. The chair you claimed is empty, We'll miss your presence there; Oh, what a grief you left us, It seems too hard to bear. We still recall your kindness, In deeds you did each day; No task too hard to conquer, No words too kind to say. Our hearts are pained and aching, To see your face once more, But sadly we remember, You left and closed the door. But hopefully we'll linger, Till God has eased our pain By calling us to glory, To see your face again. Funeral services were conducted in the Glenn Church of God in Christ on Friday, March 23, 1962, at 2 P.M. with Min. John Ensz making the opening and Min. Gerald Mininger bringing comforting words from the scripture. Graveside services were in charge of Min. John Wiens. Burial followed in the Willows Cemetery.
